Issue:
SQLEXPRESS 2008 R2 and beyond have raised the maximum database size from 4GB to 10GB. After updating to SQLEXPRESS 2008 R2, the users are still running into the 4GB hard cap. Cause: When updating to 2008 R2, the instance version was not updated properly for whatever reason. If you select the SQL instance name in SQL management studio (the topmost level in the folder list on the left), and select "Facets", the Facet selected from the dropdown should be "Server". The Major Version (near the bottom of the list) needs to be 10 or above, and if it is 10, the minor version needs to be 5 or above. If this is not the case, the instance version is still an older version, and still has the 4GB limitation. Solution: Performing a fresh installation of SQLExpress 2008 R2 and restoring a backup of the QuoteWerks database to the new instance resolves the issue. |
