Issue:

When attempting to run Maintenance on a database, user receives "Run-time error 52"

Cause:

Database is likely corrupted beyond Maintenance's ability to repair it.

Solution:

Attempt to open the file in a copy of Access 2002/2003 and run Detect & Repair under the Help drop down. If this does not resolve the issue, you will need to restore a backup copy.
